N/A Presents: A Word Like Yes
An experiential, multidisciplinary dance showcase

A word can manifest in a million ways, colored by each of our unique experiences and stories. This multidisciplinary show explored the complexity behind one word through the diverse perspectives of N/A dancers and Boston creatives. Each artist presented a unique concept, interpretation, or relationship they had with a word like “Yes.”

Creative Directed by Jenny Kim, with Producer & Director Eddy Cao and Dance Artistic Director Emily Stomski
Lighting Design by Elmer Martinez and Photography by Ry Wong

We prompted our dancers to create dance concepts around the word “Yes,” and they filled the open-ended prompt with their unique interpretations, experiences, and perspectives on a word like “yes.” The main visual is a digital collage of photo-scans—“Yes” handwritten by members of N/A—to illustrate the unique qualities of the open canvas we provided our members to color in with their unique POVs.

The Venue

Parachute Studios — home of Boston’s tallest cyc wall, traditionally used for commercial shoots.

We converted the use case to showcase performances rather than studio photography.
The cyc wall allowed us to keep the scale of light production to something small, simple, and powerful.
